A tragic incident occurred in Andral village, Bellary, where a man named Honnurappa, 28 murdered his wife Rajeshwari, 24, and their seven-month-old daughter Ashwini with a hammer, amid ongoing family disputes. The APMC Yard police arrested Honnurappa and seized the weapon used in the crime.
District Superintendent of Police Dr Suman D. Pennekar stated, “The incident took place between 8.30pm and 9.30pm on 30 July. Honnurappa killed his wife and daughter by hitting them on the head with a hammer at their home.
The severely injured mother and child died on the spot due to bleeding.” The case was registered at APMC Yard police station following a complaint from Rajeshwari’s brother, Suresh. He alleged, “There had been ongoing discord within the family, and the accused was suspicious of his wife and frequently quarrelled over her fidelity. His mother also harassed my sister.”
Police investigations revealed Honnurappa’s suspicions about his wife’s virginity and his doubts regarding his daughter’s paternity, which they say led to the murders. The accused has been remanded in custody, and police are investigating further, including possible involvement of his mother.
